Museo de Arte Moderno

El Museo de Arte Moderno (MAM) presenta una amplia colección de arte mexicano moderno y contemporáneo del siglo XX El museo cuenta con mas de 3000 obras de arte incluyendo pintura, escultura, dibujo, fotografía entre otras.

The Museum of Modern Art in México City (MAM) presents an extensive collection of modern and contemporary Mexican Art from the twentieth century. Th museum has more than 3000 works of art which include painting, sculpture, drawing and photography. 

Hace unos días visité este museo donde actualmente se exhibe "In Wonderland" una exposición de mas de 135 obras surrealistas realizadas por  mujeres en México y Estados Unidos. Durante mi visita también admiré las obras de Fernando García Correa en la exposición "Procurada Corrupción", donde el artista nos deja trabajos en diferentes técnicas con patrones geométricos y orgánicos.

A few days ago I visited this museum which currently presents "In Wonderland",  an exhibition with more than 135 surrealistic works by Mexican and U.S. women. During my visit to the MAM I also admire Fernando García Correa´s work in the exhibition "Attempted Corruption", where the artist shows us his work in different techniques with geometric and organic designs. 

Procurada Corrupción

Con mas de 160 obras, el artista Fernando Correa nos presenta su experimentación sobre diferentes lenguajes ligados a la abstracción. Los gráficos incluidos en Procurada Corrupción nos dejan puerta abierta a la interpretación propia.

With more than 160 works, Fernando Correa presents his experimentation on different languages linked to abstraction, leaving graphics that lead us to an open self interpretation of his art. 

In Wonderland

Ésta extensa exposición nos deja una reflexión sobre el papel que jugó la mujer americana en la corriente surrealista. A principios del siglo veinte, esta vanguardia tuvo como cede la nación Francesa pero muy pocos años después ya se podían ver las influencias de este movimiento en el continente americano. 

La exhibición consta de 140 obras realizadas por 45 mujeres surrealistas localizadas en México y Estados Unidos durante el periodo de 1930 a 1970. Entre las artistas se encuentran: Remedios Varo, Frida Kahlo, María Izquierdo, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Katy Horna, Dorothea Tanning y Muriel Streeter.

This exhibition let us reflect on the role played by the american women during the surrealistic movement. All along the early twentieth century, the surrealism began in France and it was just few years later that it reached the american continent though artists like Diego Rivera.

The exhibition consists on 140 works by 45 surrealist women located in Mexico and the United States during the period of 1939- 1970. Among the artists on this exposition we find: Remedios Varo, Remedios Varo, Frida Kahlo, María Izquierdo, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Katy Horna, Dorothea Tanning and Muriel Streeter.

Para mi look de visita a éste museo, me inspiré en sus esculturas modernas y el surrealismo femenino presentado "In Wonderland"

For my look I was inspired by the moder sculptures in the museum and the feminine surrealism presented "In Wonderland".

Surrealism/ Vasos Comunicantes

   

El MUNAL es uno de los museos más bellos de nuestra ciudad, este mes y hasta septiembre se presenta una exposición sobre el surrealismo, mostrando el trabajo visual de surrealistas europeos y mexicanos tales como Dalí, Magritte, Wolfgang Paalen , Diego Rivera, Remedios Varo, Luis Buñuel, entre otros.

El Surrealismo es un estilo artístico y un movimiento cultural fundado en 1920 por André Breton. El origen del surrealismo es otro movimiento cultural, el dadaísmo, cuyo punto principal es mostrar que la vida misma es al azar y sin control.

El objetivo principal de ambos movimientos es demostrar que hay un lado irracional sin construir en la psique humana.

Los artista surrealista de los 20´s disfrutaban pintar en un estilo libre y utilizaban como fuente de inspiración el inconsciente de la mente, el significado de los sueños y las nuevas teorías de Frued.

Personalmente, este es uno de nuestros movimientos favoritos ya que representa a los humanos desde el interior, mostrando no sólo los aspectos buenos, si no también también ideas ocultas y a veces oscuras que normalmente no nos atrevemos a mostrar.

Durante la exposición nos sentimos muy emocionadas de estar cerca de tan buenas piezas (de hecho inspiramos nuestros outfits en una de las pinturas) Es por esto que recomendamos visitar esta exhibición.

The MUNAL is one of the most beautiful museums in our city, this month and until september they are presenting an exhibition about the amazing Surrealism, showing the visual works of european and mexican surrealist, such as Dalí, Magritte, Wolfgang Paalen, Diego Rivera, Remedios Varo, Luis Buñuel, among others.

The Surrealism is an artistic style and cultural movement founded in the 1920´s by André Breton.  The origins of surrealism is another cultural movement, the Dada, which main point is to show that life itself is random and uncontrolled.

The main aim of both movements is to prove that there is an irrational unconstructed side in the human psyche. 

1920´s surrealist artist loved to paint in a free style and they used as inspiration the unconscious mind, the significance of the dreams and the new Frued´s theories. 

Personally, this is one of our most loved movements because it represents humans from the very insights, showing not only good aspects, but also hidden and sometimes dark ideas that we usually don´t show. 

We felt very exited about being in front of such good pieces (actually we inspired our looks in on surrealistic painting) this is why we totally recommend this exhibition. more information about Surrealism "Vasos comunicantes" here.
